Paris 2006

The fourth edition of the Entretiens européens
on the management of Nuclear Waste will take place in the Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie of Paris on October 11th.

Minutes of the conference (pdf)      Invitation and programme (pdf)

This conference aims at pointing out the progresses of the French law on management of nuclear waste, and at having reactions of Europeans stakeholders emerge, on the basis of their own national experiences and jurisdictions. Could the French law be a model for other member States and a contribution to a European framework?

The French law on the sustainable management of radioactive waste and materials has been adopted in June. Here is a translation made by the OPECST.

It is sponsored by the European Commission and the French Government. The event enjoys partnership with Confrontations Europe, FORATOM, and has been given the support of Andra, AREVA, CEA, EDF (France’s electricity board) and Electrabel Suez. A working group, gathering researchers, French and European stakeholders and chaired by Claude Fischer, Executive Director of ASCPE, meets regularly in order to prepare these discussions around two round tables and the « Letter ». This half-yearly newsletter, “la Lettre des Entretiens européens” is distributed to 10 000 people all over Europe in order to answer public opinion concerns (in French and in English). The next one will be published in November and will deal with the October conference.

The first edition took place in Nogent on 28th November 2003. Its main topic was “Seeing national choices in a European perspective”. It brought together 190 high-level participants from seven European countries, Japan and the EU institutions.

The second edition took place in Bar-Le-Duc on 26th November 2004. It was focused on “The Governance of Nuclear Waste”. 290 economic and social stakeholders from 10 European countries and Canada attended the conference.

The third edition took place in Reims on 25th November 2005. It was dealing with Management of nuclear waste: choosing security and sustainable development”.
